Administration
Dr. Martin O. Gomez, Principal
Dear Upland Highlanders,
Welcome to a new and exciting year at Upland High School! It is my third year as the principal and I am so proud to share the amazing achievements of our students and staff. We had a fantastic year, and I can't wait to see what we accomplish next.
In sports, we made history with our Boys Soccer team winning their first-ever CIF championship! Our Football, Girls Softball, and Boys Volleyball teams became Baseline League champions, and our Boys Volleyball team did it for the fourth year in a row! Thirteen of our wrestlers qualified for CIF, and three moved on to Masters. Girls Tennis, Girls Soccer, and Boys Basketball made the playoffs, and one of our Esports teams qualified for nationals! Two of our track and field athletes won league titles. Artistically, our Band Regiment and Color Guard also became Regional and State Champions and our Choir, Dance, Theater, and The Arts classes continue to amaze us with beautiful performances and fun events.
Academically, we have a lot to celebrate. Twenty-one students qualified for state History Day, and eight students made it to the state Science Fair, with one senior going on to nationals. Our AP scores improved as 19 out of our 25 AP classes have pass rates higher than the national average! This shows how dedicated and hardworking our students and teachers are.
Our Class of 2024 has shown that dreams come true with hard work. Our graduates are heading to top schools like Harvard, UCLA, SCripps College, Berklee School of Music, UC Irvine, UC Berkeley, UC Santa Barbara, Long Beach State, UC Riverside, University of La Verne, San Diego State, Claremont McKenna, Smith College, UC San Diego, William Penn University, University of Oklahoma, Cal State Fullerton, Mt. Sac, Cal Poly Pomona, Chaffey, and many more. We are also proud of those who will serve our country in the armed forces. Your hard work is an inspiration to us all.
As we start this year, our focus will be on making learning even better. We are excited about engaging students in a structured manner, making sure teachers clearly identify the learning intention and success criteria, asking more engaging questions, using data to have collaborative conversations to adjust our instruction, and ensuring the safety of everyone at school.
Let's make this year the best one yet! Get ready, Upland Highlanders, for an amazing year ahead!
