ASB stands for Associated Student Body and it represents the interests and goals of the entire School Student Body. ASB is a class where students develop leadership skills.. Students who enroll in ASB do so because they recognize that there is more to being successful in school than simply doing homework. Having a positive atmosphere during the school day where students feel wanted and accepted is critical to their success. The ASB class focus on providing engaging activities that ensure a well-rounded high school experience.

Students in ASB plan, organize, and participate in such activities as rallies, dances such as Homecoming and Prom, spirit weeks, grade-level competitions, and various lunchtime and after school activities.

If you are interested in being a leader at UHS, read about class officer information and fill out the application below.

CLASS OFFICER INFORMATION

Class Officer Jobs Description

The class is often the strongest link which an individual has to his or her high school.   Class spirit generated may be central to a sense of school pride. Students elected to class office have a special opportunity and challenge to serve individual students directly and to personally involve them in projects and activities.

What follows is a brief description of the responsibilities of each class office. After that is a general description of what all UHS ASB students are responsible for doing each year, along with specific assignments for the four classes.

President

The president is the leader of the class and responsible for all class activities.  The role is unique. The class officers are rarely any more or less effective as the President.  The president must be committed to Upland High School, must be respected by peers, the faculty, and the administration and must be enthusiastic about the role of President.  A good president is a motivator and inspirer. The President is the one officer who must have the “big picture”. Because The President is responsible to see that everyone does the job, they need to remind individuals how their specific job fits into the overall goals of the group.  The President must also model the kind of behavior they want from others. The actions of the President are highly visible to others.

Vice President

The Vice President is a key person in any effectively functioning organization.  It is important that the Vice President is as well informed as the President. The Vice President must be prepared to assume more responsibility if needed; therefore they must have all the qualities listed above.

Secretary

The Secretary’s job entails a great deal of careful attention to detail.  The Secretary must have qualities including accuracy, efficiency, orderliness, cheerfulness, sincerity, dependability and promptness.  They will be responsible to keep the entire class informed of upcoming class activities.

Treasurer

The Treasurer is responsible for accurate accounts and plans.  Careful bookkeeping is the key to financial responsibility. They will be responsible to see that all requisitions are filled out correctly and BEFORE any purchase is made.
