Welcome  to Upland High School, the Home of the Highlanders.  Upland has a long tradition of excellence (established in 1955); excellence that begins with our incoming freshmen class.  As you prepare to take this very important step in your life, we would like to give you a few simple pieces of advice:

  1. Be Involved.  High school is a great opportunity to discover more about who you are and explore who you want to be.  Enrich your experience by taking advantage of the many opportunities that Upland has to offer. Become involved in clubs, athletics, and academic organizations.
  1. Be Kind.  Together, you will work hard in your classes, enjoy time engaging in extracurriculars, and grow into young adults. These relationships are special; you will create life long friendships. Treat each other with kindness and support each other through this exciting and sometimes stressful time.
  1. Be Proud.  In coming to Upland High School, you are entering an academic institution with a proud tradition. Our graduates have gone on to the finest post-secondary educational institutions in the country. Our graduates defend this country with honor. Our graduates do great things and make this world a better place to live. Be proud to be a Highlander. We are proud to have you as part of our community.

PARTICIPATING IN SPORTS AT UPLAND HIGH SCHOOL

Participating in a sport at Upland High School gives students the opportunity to get involved, to make new friends, to develop and improve skills in a sport and to participate in a team experience.

Occasionally students will miss a class due to away games or meets that require them to leave school early. The following suggestions are tips to help students succeed academically while participating in a sport:

  1. Get organized; use your agenda and schedule a regular time to complete homework every day. Note all game days in your agenda. (The sports schedule is available on our website)
  2. Check Schoolloop.
  3. Let the teacher know when you need to leave early and ask for the homework assignment for that day.
  4. Get the phone numbers of several classmates that you can call if you miss the class, to find out what you missed and get the assignment.
  5. If you miss a lecture, get the notes from a friend or ask the teacher for a copy of the lecture notes.
  6. The day after missing a class, check in with the teacher to find out what you missed.
  7. Tests: when possible, make arrangements prior to missing class, for making up tests.

REMEMBER: IT’S YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND OUT WHAT YOU MISSED AND TO MAKE UP ANY MISSING ASSIGNMENTS AND TESTS. WITH GOOD STUDY HABITS AND ORGANIZATION, YOU CAN BE SUCCESSFUL IN BOTH SPORTS AND ACADEMICS.
