President's Volunteer Service Award

Upland High School is proud to offer the President's Volunteer Service Award (PVSA) program to recognize and honor students who demonstrate an outstanding commitment to serving their community and their nation.

Who is eligible?

All Upland High School students who have or will have documented volunteer service hours between April 1, 2024, and March 31, 2025 are eligible to participate.

How many hours do I need to volunteer?

The PVSA has three award levels, each with a different hourly requirement depending on age group:

Teen - Age 11-15 years old
  • Gold Award: 100+ hours of service
  • Silver Award: 75–99 hours of service
  • Bronze Award: 50–74 hours of service
 Young Adult - Age 16-25 years old
  • Gold Award: 250+ hours of service
  • Silver Award: 175-249 hours of service
  • Bronze Award: 100-174 hours of service

Bronze, Silver, and Gold Award Packages will be available through UHS in conjunction with the PVSA.
The UHS Award Package includes a certificate and an achievement pin.

What types of volunteer service qualify?

A wide variety of volunteer activities are eligible for the PVSA, including:

  • Working with local non-profit organizations
  • Assisting at community events
  • Tutoring or mentoring younger students
  • Volunteering at hospitals or nursing homes
  • Cleaning up local parks or beaches
  • Participating in food drives or clothing collections
  • Helping to raise awareness for important causes

Activities that DO NOT qualify for the PVSA include:

  • Fundraising for personal benefit (e.g. sports teams, clubs, and youth groups)
  • Serving only family members
  • Court-ordered community service
  • Religious instruction
  • Political lobbying (except for non-partisan voter registration)

Tracking your hours:

To help you track your volunteer hours, an Upland High School PVSA Service Hours Tracker Template on Google Sheets is available. 

  1. Download a copy of the template to your drive from the Verification/Application Form
  2. Continually update it with your activities and hours
  3. When you're ready to submit your application: print the PVSA Hour Verification form (for your records), create a PDF and submit the PDF to the PVSA Hour Verification/Application Form

PVSA Advisory Club:

The PVSA Advisory Club’s role is to coordinate volunteer opportunities, provide information, and give advice and support regarding the President’s Volunteer Service Award.

Important Dates: 

Informational Meeting - Thursday, September 26th in Room C111 at lunch
General Meeting - Thursdays, once per month, in the Lower Library after school
Biweekly Meetings - 2nd & 4th Thursdays in Room C111 at lunch

Application deadline:

All PVSA Applications and Volunteer hours must be submitted by April 9, 2025.
No late submissions will be accepted.
Remember, every hour you volunteer counts!

Academic Honesty

Integrity is essential. If you are caught misrepresenting your hours (random checks will be conducted) you will be disqualified from applying (this year and in the future.)
